Lev 25/Mark 11:1-18
Tomorrows Reading: Lev 26-27/Mark 11:19-33
Lev
We sing ‘It’s the year of Jubilee’ – as the land observes the Sabbath year, I hadn’t thought about what people would eat during that time. Seeing now in v20-22; God will provide such a bounty of blessings during that year, it will provide/last for 3years until the following year’s harvest is planted/harvested.. and enough for the year after that.
Ever think about ‘what you own’ - look at v23... we’re just basically taking care of our land/house for the next person – nothing is permanent. Lot’s of speak about land owners/redemption of homes, etc.. this was to protect the poor as well, prevent a monopoly, perhaps.
Mark
The Triumphal Entry – why do you think now, the people laid the cloaks down for His path (which is kinda cool, btw) – up until this point, they just followed him every where he went and were blessed/amazed at his healing/help. But now, it seems to be all about respect and as if they knew about His purpose/deity as the Messiah (but they didn’t, did they?) Still not sure I get the whole ‘fig tree’ deal; this particular tree was full of leaves way before the ‘norm’ – it bore no fruit and Jesus was hungry (hungry not mentioned in Matthew, I don't think). Jesus, in Matthew 21:18-19, condemned the tree which immediately withered. I have a note that says this could be representative of the judgment of Israel.
Side Note:
So, why Cinco de Mayo? "And why should Americans savor this day as well? Because 4,000 Mexican soldiers smashed the French and traitor Mexican army of 8,000 at Puebla, Mexico, 100 miles east of Mexico City on the morning of May 5, 1862."
