Lev 21-22/Mark 10:1-31
Tomorrows reading: Lev 23-24/Mark 10:32-52
Lev
Identifies the importance of cleanliness for Priest – as they v6-B ‘… present the offerings made to the Lord..‘
The unacceptable sacrifices continue to show God’s continued conditioning of Israel – representatives as His chosen people. Notice many versus in ch22 complete his directives with the commanding fact; ‘I am the Lord’.
Mark
Pharisee’s testing Jesus (again) – notes say since Jesus was in Harod’s jurisdiction, they would ask him about divorce – possible hopes were His response would lead to the same outcome as John the Baptist (imprisonment/beheaded 6:17-18). Divorce is such a ‘sticky subject’, tends to ‘label’ folks – thoughts?
Remember reading about little children and Jesus in Matthew – parents bring kids to Jesus for His blessings – I mentioned how proud/happy parents must have been. Important notes on v13-16: the kingdom of God must be received as a gift; it cannot be achieved by human effort. It may be entered only by those who know they are helpless, without claim or merit – ie, the mention/analogy of children. ‘It’s easier for camel to go thru eye of needle than a rich man getting into heaven’ – not talking about money here. Money for this man (young ruler) kept him from ‘seeing/recognizing Jesus’… in other words, an obstacle. See any of that today? Yep. What are "today's" obstacles preventing you/us from getting closer to Him? Is that something that could be fixed with a little desire/effort?
