Lev 13/Mark 7:14-37
Tomorrow’s Reading: Lev14/Mark8:1-21
Lev
Not sure I get all the medical reasons about the white-hair, and swelling vs. redness during startup/tear-down of any ‘condition’ mentioned, but in all of the examples, what determines a person ‘unclean’ was if condition become more than just on the surface; v3,6,14,20,25,30. NIV notes say the symptoms described, and the fact they may rapidly change, show disease was not true leprosy (Hansen’s disease) and are forms of rashes (ie.. the 7day period to wait/watch). Interestingly so, NIV notes say ‘infectious skin disease’ can also mean ‘mildew’. I think of mildew as a stinky, spreading fungus that is something hard to get rid of – but a passing thought about mildew is something that creeps upon you, often unknowingly/silently, and can do much damage. Hmmm.. may be some parallels there.
Mark
Seems were running parallel with OT themes in our reading; we’re talking about clean/unclean body/food in OT and here in Mark, Jesus is speaking to the same concepts. But changes and says it's not what goes into the body that makes him unclean, but what comes out of the body; v20-23. Did you notice v16 is not there?
Jesus goes to Tyre (NW of Capernaum – coast of Mediterranean) and heals deamon possessed little girl from the plea/faith of her mother – then to region of Decapolis (South of Sea of Galilee area where demons cast into pigs) and heals the deaf and the people were amazed. I wonder if any of the people there some of the same folks that wanted Jesus to leave after He cast demons into their pigs?

I don't get the white hair versus the black hair deal. What I do get though is how God set up principles for control of communicable disease. Again, I'm sure God had more than that in mind.
