Lev
Many were offering Ox to the ‘goat idols’ (ie, the demons)..
Lev17:11 For the life of a creature is in the blood, and I have given it to you to make atonement for yourselves on the altar; it is the blood that makes atonement for one's life – ie, the reason they had to drain blood out before eating.
In v6, ‘no one is to approach any close relative to have sexual relations’ – how does this compare with continuing the blood-line/linage that Israelites were accustomed to? v7, there are just some things you shouldn’t have to be told.
Mark
What/who do you think Jesus was referring to in 9:1 – one of my favorite references in the bible is the Transfiguration – first reading of the OT and into the new, I had a ‘connection’ with Moses and thought at the time he got a raw deal. To see him appear again in the NT was exciting (still new learner)
Why do you think Jesus responded to in v19 – the dad came to Jesus because he ‘thought’ he could help? Thoughts on v29 – specific types of demons cast out thru prayer?
C. - My study notes say that it is not the blood in the veins that make atonement...it is the blood on the alter.
Notice how at the end of 18 God talks about how the land became defiled and how the land would vomit out the Hebrews if they did not follow God's laws? Man's actions affect more than just himself. Earth and nature are involved as well.
Mark 9:1 I think the key is "Kingdom of God come with power". Seems the beginning of that was the transfiguration, followed by Christ's crucifixion and resurrection, and finally with Pentecost. Christs disciples were in the crowd and many would see all these things before they died.
V 19. I believe Jesus was talking to everyone present including His disciples. None had the faith of a mustard seed.
V 29. Seems some demons are tougher than others. My notes say some manuscripts read 'prayer and fasting'.
kev-oh - yeah, 10-4 on the 'blood-deal'.
Heb 9:22 - 'Without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness'.
NIV notes: 'The blood of the OT sacrifice pointed forward to the blood of the Lamb of God, who obtained for his people "eternal redemption"' (Heb 9:12)
