Exodus 25-26/Mark 1:1-22
Tomorrow’s Reading: Exodus 27-28/Mark 1:23-45
Exodus
Detailed instructions for building the ark and Tabernacle.
Mark
We'll see lots of repeat from Matthew, but from a different point of view/perspective. Mark talks about John the Baptist and his role, as well as Jesus journey to Cranium (as you know, they spend a lot of time there).

Exodus
Setting: I think they are no longer on the mountain, because as God details the building of the tabernacle, He says ‘per instructions I gave you on the mountain’. So, probable still at the base of the mountain, #8 on main-page map
God details the building of the ark (different word used here than Noah’s Ark or ark that Moses was floating in on the Nile) – He also details the building of the tabernacle. Details are of gold, silver, fine linens, etc.. The craft of dyeing materials was a big deal – the blue/purple/scarlet (royal colors); blue/purple came from shellfish – the promise land was known as Canaan, which means land of purple (grandson of Noah, father Ham).
Mark
Setting: date written was debated between 50-60AD and 70AD, was written in Rome – audience was church of Rome, or ‘at least the Gentile readers’. Persecution and martyrdom were special-interest topics of Mark because of concerns from Roman believers.
Mark talks about John the Baptist (JTB), Jesus getting baptized by JTB, how Simon and his brother Andrew, James and John are called to follow and ‘at once’ they respond. They travel to Capernaum (North East side of Sea of Galilee) where he teaches in synagogue – the people were amazed at His teaches, compared to the teachers of the law. Right away, we see where there is a following being established.
