Exodus
By today’s standards, chapter 29 would seem a little odd, I’d say. Last year, we talked about the meaning of the bull/ram as offerings… ‘transferring their sins to the sin-bearer’.. ie, the animal – and the significance of each, but I’ll need to dig that out. As you know, Jesus was the ‘sin bearer’ for us in the NT. All of the preparation mentioned here are so, v1, ‘they may serve me as priest’.
In ch30, we learn about the burning of incense – Aaron’s son’s will die from not following these guidelines later (sorry to spoil the ending of that story for you). I think catholics, upon entering the sanctuary, dip their hands in water every Sunday/time they meet – I wonder if that is ‘to remember baptism’ or because 30:20? Hmmm.
Mark
Pharisees continue trying to find fault in Jesus – more later, running out of time.
Finished up on Mark's reading for this day:
V1, ‘home’ was more than likely Peter’s house. Jesus heals paralytic that was handed down thru a hole in the roof ‘because of their faith’. Did you think ‘what, they broke line’ (because of the large crowds) – Jesus accused of blaspheming (speak irreverently of God) because in Jewish theology, even the Messiah couldn’t forgive sins. In v9, which is easier - both impossible for man, equally easy to God.
Levi in v14… ie, the calling of Matthew. Verse 17 (SMV – Scott’s Memory Versus to come later) – “it is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not com to call the righteous, but sinners”. A self-righteous man does not realize he need for salvation, an admitted sinner does. Jesus questioned about fasting for John the Baptist’s followers were mourning his imprisonment. Jesus compares His disciples to that of guest of a bridegroom, for they celebrate – ie, celebration of the Good News!
