Gen16-17; Matt5:27-48

Tomorrow Gen18-19/Matt 6:1-18 - it's getting difficult to follow unless you print off and high-light what you've completed. I'm still working on recreating with 'our' dates.

Abram's wife Sarai is barren Gen11, and God's Covenant w/Abram was to make him into great nations in Gen12:1/15:4, 'son from your own body' so how was that going to happen? Sarai gets a little frustrated and takes things into her own hands... notice Sarai says "I can build a family" in 16:2 and 'Abram agreed'.. in the very next sentence. Reminds me a little of Adam/Eve; Abram failed as well. Best part, in v5, Sarai lashes out (just like a woman.. heeh, no offense ladies) and blames Abram for her suggestion. (snicker).

What's in a name: Abram = [God is] Exalted Father, Abraham is Father of many. God marks him as Special . Sarai/Sarah both = Princes, Ishmael=Misery (Hagar, Sarai’s maidservant, in misery because Sarai mistreated her), and Isaac = 'He laughs'(NIV notes) – Abram thought it was a little humorous to have kids at his age, I’d say

Circumcised = God's appointed 'sign of the covenant', God’s covenant with Abraham. Ishmael got Circumcised at age13*/Abraham at 99. NIV notes say that the Arabs use circumcision as transition from childhood to manhood (* wonder if this is why).

Matt5:27-48 Adultery not just a physical act.. Jesus points out, 'deal with sin' as required - remove sin/temptations from your life. Being 'in the word' displaces sinful desires over time!!

hmmm.. not sure why you posted this as 'anonymously', but will require some time to parse-thru this string of information that looks 'canned/pre-fabricated' for presentations to make some point.

I'm guessing at scanning this, that the point that is being made is something other than what the bible teaches us… I'm not familiar with the Quran (unless they too are members of the pop group Quran-Quran... hehe) and no sure I'll ever be, to be quite honest. But in short, I personally place my faith in what is written in the Bible... and that's where my focus is - both in this study and in my/my family's life.

Seems quite simple to me though - Christ was sent for atonement of my, and every other believers sins. And because of His relationship with the Father God, he willingly laid down his life for us – his life was not ‘taken from him’. Realizing that He is the ‘only path’ to the Father…, this leads us to the understanding that we all are sinners and could never attain the perfection of Jesus (you, me, my wife, kids, everybody), the penalty of sin is obviously death (eternal lake of fire), having faith that Jesus died for my sins, rose on the 3rd day… overcoming even death - gives me as a believer, a profound belief/faith of hope, love, and the assurance that I will be in heaven for eternity with my maker someday.

I am prying for you that you have or will ‘hear’ the voice of the ‘counselor’, that you will see/receive the grace that only comes thru faith in Jesus Christ, and you will accept Jesus as your personal savior as well. There is no other way… there are no multiple paths to heaven…

John 10:9 I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. (note the word ‘the’.. and not ‘a’. Jesus is THE ONLY gate/way to the Father)

Joshua 24:15 (New International Version)

15 But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your forefathers served beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD."
