Job25-27/Matt 12:22-50

Tomorrows reading: Job 28-29/Matt 13:1-30

We say good-by to Bildad (not sure that’s such a bad thing) and Job ‘stands tall’ in his faith/patience.

Matthew is still in the same vicinity in Capernaum where he was gathering wheat and healing man in the synagogue. Pharisees accuse Jesus of performing miracles thru powers of Beelzebub and makes a reference in Matt12:40 to the resurrection.

Job
Bildad makes his last appearance – Job responds with a little sarcasm in 26:2-4 talking about how Bildad has been such a help to others, ‘where did you get such wisdom’. Ahah In ch27, Job maintains his innocence and ‘stands tall’ in his faith; I kinda liked reading 27:3-4: “... as long as I have life within me/my lips will not speak wickedness and my tongue will utter no deceit”. Even after all of ‘this’, he’s standing tall. 27:13-23, NIV notes just say the Job is reminding his counselors about an issue which they all agree; that the truly wicked deserve Gods’ wrath. Unfortunately, the three friends had falsely put Job in that category.

Matthew
‘They’ in v22 were his followers that left with Jesus from yesterdays reading, when he left the synagogue. The Pharisees accuse Jesus healing the sick thru the powers of Beelzebub – not sure if the Pharisees really believe that or… were just trying to discredit Jesus’ miracles to his followers. Gotta love v30 (SMV – another one to go on the ‘Scott’s Memory Verse’ list for later); ‘He who is not with me is against me, and he who does not gather with me scatters’. Deep.

Ch28:38 the Pharisees wanted to see another sign – he just healed many, but they ‘did not see’. This happens a lot – miraculous acts take place right before their eyes, yet they still don’t get it (… this speaks to today’s times as well, no?). vv39-42 is saying that ‘if the men of Nineveh responded positively to Jonah and,… the Queen of Sheba responded positively to the wisdom of Solomon, how much more should the people of Jesus’ day have respond to his ministry as it’s infinitely greater than both Solomon and Jonah.

Not sure I fully understand 12:46-50 and what the point is there. Anybody?
