Tomorrows reading: Job 22-24/Matt 12:1-23
Job
Zophar returns and congers up some very vivid imagery of evil doers and wicked men (ie.. Job, as Eliphaz, Bildad, and Zophar are all are claiming).
Job's response is 'what's the point' - why do the wicked seem to be 'getting by'. I've thought this before (yeah.. not good, but it happens).
Matthew
John the Baptist is introduced and Jesus speaks 'highly' of him.

Job
Zophar returns… so far, they’re just ‘taking turns’ in order that they started. He paints a vivid pitcher of ‘emptiness’ and congers up as many viol images to make his point; v7 ‘… he will perish forever like his own dung’ vv 12-14 ‘Evil is sweet in his mouth… yet his food will turn sour in his stomach’ like venom. (note: ‘adder’ in v16 is a ‘common European viper’)
Job in ch21 responses with a question I know I’ve thought about before (disclaimer: the following is sinful in nature – turn of your sets if children are around) , “… why does he have it so good, look at his life – he steals, cheats, lies… ”. In vv7-15; ‘Why do the wicked live on, growing old and increasing in power’… v12 outlines how ‘they make merry to the sound of flutes’ and are just living life for the moment and it is good. They’re may have been times where we said ‘so what’s the point’ – Job touches on that in v15 ‘what do we gain by praying’. Once we’re dead, we will lie in the dust and worms are going to eat both good and bad man in v26.
Matthew 11
In ch10, Jesus has just given the 12 instructions about going out, finding a place to stay, who to talk to, and warnings about they (… ie, we) will be hated because of their relationship with Jesus.
John the Baptist is outlined as quite the humble man – there seemed to be much confusion about who Jesus is and was suppose to be (Moses, Elijah, a great ‘earthly king’). Malachi 3:1 and repeated here in Matt ‘I will send my messenger ahead of you’… who was that suppose to be – John the Baptist. Jesus acknowledges him as the Elijah who was to come, originally found in Malachi 4:5
Jesus ‘denounces’ the cities where he performed his miracles – they didn’t get it. But Jesus praises God for the hearts of the humble followers are like those of children. SMV v27-28
