Tomorrows Reading: Job14-16/Matt10:1-20
Zophar the Naamathite steps up; origin of Naamah not known exactly but thought to be just East of the Jordan, around Ammon, Moab, and Edom (areas immediately adjacent to the Salt sea)
Jesus identifies the 12 and sends them on their way.

Job11
Welcome Zophar ‘the Naamathite’ to the scene – possibly from (Saudia) Arabia… see map just below Mesopotamia. Zophar opens up and wrongly accuses Job (imagine that) claiming Job insinuates his purity – not so, Job is speaking to being blameless, not pure. Zophar continues Eliphaz/Bildad’s theme of ‘stop ya sinnin’ slack, and you gonna be ok’
Job 12
Not sure exactly what v2 means, but I think Job is lashing out at Zophar and the fact he (Zophar) is falsely preaching much Godly wisdom? We get insight that all three of his friends are elders, wise with age – for some reason, I had always thought of them as younger. And he continue to praise God’s creation and his divine purpose.
Job 13
V4-5 has no reference (worthless physicians/quacks) to the Doctors/Veterinarians doing this study (snicker) – Job just saying ‘I appreciate a brother, but you cat’s just aren’t helping this situation – so please shut your face’. Then job lays down a ‘burn’ (if you lived in the 70’s or know who ‘Kelso’ is, you’ll get that) to his friends and says silence is wisdom (I like to call them fat-heads, at this point). I think Job13 shows a man scared, yet very confident of his level of righteousness.
Matt10:1-20
Apostles; Simon, Andrew, James, John, Philip, Bartholomew, Thomas, Matthew, James, Thaddeus, Simon, and Judas (memory stuff for later);
The tone is ‘reach out’ V5 – ‘Do not go among the Gentiles’, Jesus wanted to ‘good news’ to be spread to the Jews only, at first – to the ‘lost sheep of Israel’. (not exactly sure why at this point). Also in v14 ‘…shake the dust off’, ie, seems to be saying you’ve given a warning to those that don’t listen, that’s all I expect from you. Thoughts?
A poor woman applied herself to Christ, and received mercy from him immediately. If we do but touch, as it were, the hem of Christ's garment by living faith, our worst evils will be healed; there is no other real cure. Pretty good/heavy stuff here.
When Christ entered the ruler's house,. Sometimes, when the sorrow of the world prevails, it is difficult for Christ and his comforts to enter.
(note: excerpts taken from some other sources to make some of these points)
Jesus heals the blind and in v28 says 'Do you believe that I am able to do this'. I've often prayed, because that's what we do with our faith, right? But, I am often shocked (still) when prayers get answered. Why do I/we do that – what is that? I know/trust/believe - when reading these stories, we often think of 'them' and ‘their oversights’, but the bible is really speaking to 'us', no?
